The last quarter of the year, October to December, is my favorite season. It is when I feel the most inspired. Fall starts with the build up to Halloween (costume making, spooky decorations, pumpkin carving, PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” Halloween candy, trick or treating), transitioning into Thanksgiving (gratitude journals, turkey hand art, turkey and cranberry sandwiches, “The Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special,” writing letters of thanks to family) and culminating in Christmas, the celebration of Jesus’ birth (handmade Christmas gifts, Christmas cards, gingerbread house making, “The Charlie Brown Christmas Special,” picking a theme for our decorations, setting up the Christmas tree, BAKING ALL THE GOODIES).

It is also the time of year that I feel the most stressed, so many creative ideas, with so little time and so many things going on. I usually have unrealistic expectations for how much I can get done, and end up frustrated and feeling like a failure, rather than celebrating all the love that I’ve poured out on my family.
As things start to get busy, remember how important it is to set aside some artist self-care time. I know that as an artist mom with young kids, your time is precious and limited. So all of these tutorials are less than 10 minutes long, and show you how to do a painting that should take you 15-45 minutes to complete.
